Corsages? But what are corsages?

There's a first for everything...
This friend from work asked me to make some corsages for her sister's baby shower, and to be honest, I had to research "baby shower corsages". Until then I had this image of bridesmaids wearing them, nothing else.
So, she wanted farm animals themed and I don't know if I had more fun making the animals or the actual corsages.
I mean folks, look at these babies!!!

Aren't they adorable?

And these are the corsages...

I hope she loves them as much as I do!!!

See y'all soon.

2016 Sewing Challenge - Challenge # 2

Challenge #2: Two-Handed Pot Holder

You would think that having a long weekend would help me get things done quicker, but noooooo! It's not like I was sitting on the couch watching Gilmore Girls... I was working in my craft room all the time (...and watching Gilmore Girls).

So, here I am, late with my second post on this challenge. A two-handed pot holder.

I also find great (and free!!) patterns in blogs I love. One of them is Sew4home. This is one of my favorite sites EVER! They not only have great patterns, but also videos and lessons for beginners.

When you get a pattern from the internet, you don't have the pieces to cut like you have from the ones you buy somewhere else. You have to make your own patterns. Some people just go ahead and cut straight on the fabric following the measurements, but I like my patterns.

I use cardstock (those you buy for school projects) to make my patterns and I store them in zip top bags.

So, anytime I decide to make this pot holder, I will find everything in one place. Ready to use!

Next step is cut the pieces. This pot holder might look fancy and complicated, but it is a breeze to make. The directions are very simple and straight forward. I felt like I could keep making them forever.

Those handy-dandy clips are a must have. I've had mine now for years, and let me tell you, they are the BEST!!!

These are two of my best friends, folks. I had to introduce them to you... :)

So, here you go...the final product. Sorry about all the pics, I guess I got excited!

So, I hope you guys liked it! This is definitely a keeper. If you like to sew, go check it out. If not, answer the question below for a chance to get this one.

2016 Sewing Challenge - Challenge #1

Challenge #1: Eyeglasses Case + Tissue Holder

Hi again, y'all!!! I am really excited about this challenge, but I wanted to start things slow...mainly because I have a stye and it has been bugging me a lot.

So, I present you the first challenge! Simplicity Pattern # 5598 - Totes and accessories. It was one of the first patterns I bought and, appropriately enough, it's called Sewing Patterns for Dummies. All my patterns are for accessories or gifts. The sad thing is that I had never opened it. :(

My first step when using a new pattern is to open it and separate all the parts. Then I pick the ones I will need for the project and cut them to size.

Next, I choose the fabric I want to use. This might take a while because I have have collected quite a bit of fabric over the years. I LOVE fabric!!! It has to be just right for the project or else it won't work. For this one, it had to be sturdy enough, but still pretty. The pattern tells you what kinds of fabric work best and that's very helpful.

I chose this one just because it is sturdy, but also so different and colorful! So, after I am set on which fabric to use, I cut the pieces and begin sewing. It's like putting a puzzle together.

I thought it turned out so cute that I made one eyeglass case for me too. :)

Check it out...

The bottom line is, I really liked this pattern. It's a keeper! It's easy to follow and great for someone who doesn't have a lot of experience with sewing. I don't love the fabric they used in the pictures and maybe that's why I never felt excited about using it, but I think it turned out great.

So, what do you think? Are you ready to take these home? All you have to do is leave a comment and answer the question below. One lucky person win these cuties!

See y'all soon!

2016 Sewing Challenge

Ever since I taught myself how to sew I have been collecting patterns that catch my eye, mostly craft stuff because I don't think I am good enough to sew clothes.

It's not a huge amount, but it's enough to get me thinking... I haven't really used these. Maybe one or two, but not all of them. So, as I begin my annual cleaning, decluttering and purging, I decided to use them or purge them.

The challenge will be to sew at least one item from each pattern per week and then decide if it's worth keeping or not (the pattern).

The cool thing about it is that I plan on giving all these items away to some very lucky folks. All you have to do is provide the most creative answer to a question I will post each week.

Then I will choose the lucky winner.

I think it will be fun!
